Design isn’t my first career, but it’s my first love. My mom was a designer in Dallas and took me to job sites from an early age. During my 12-year career in TV news as an Emmy-award-winning journalist, I renovated and designed several homes. While my TV career was successful, my true fulfillment came from creating beautiful homes to live in. Finally, I decided it was time to embrace this passion I’d spent a lifetime pursuing here in my home city of Austin, Texas, and founded my company, Kris Betts Designs, in 2021.

Now I transform people’s homes through full-service remodeling and new construction design. From deciding the layout of a room, to the function and design, to the final install, no detail is overlooked. And spaces should be more than just beautiful! As a mother of two, I know the importance of prioritizing practical storage. I also strive to create designs that have timeless elements sprinkled with trendy touches, ensuring they look fresh and modern for many years to come to maximize your investment.

Most importantly, I use my skills honed by years of working in journalism to listen and problem-solve. These are two crucial skills to make sure my clients feel heard and understood when it comes to style, budget, needs, and timelines. Problem solving is such an important part of project management, and I work diligently with my vendors, contractors, and clients to make sure projects are completed to the highest standard.
